Penang’s capital, George Town, was first granted city status by way of royal charter from the queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II on January 1, 1957 - the first town in then Malaya to be accorded such an honour but was not sanctioned by the post-independence federal government.
 
On August, 2010, a decision was made by Penang Local Government to have the status upgraded and an application was sent to the Local Government Ministry.
 
On 10 December, 2014, Penang local Government received a letter from the Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Ministry said the decision to upgrade the municipality to a city council was made by the Cabinet on November 11, 2014.
 
With the city status, the Penang Island Municipal Council will now be renamed as the Penang Island City Council.
 
Penang will be the 13th city in Malaysia with the others being Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Alor Star, Johor Baru, Malacca City, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Kinabalu, Miri, Kuching North and Kuching South.
 
Program City Fun Run is organised in conjunction with the Penang Island City Council declaration.

Rules & Regulations

Participants’ Guide

1. Collection of T-Shirt

  • Collection of running T-shirts shall be held on 30th May, 2015 (Saturday) from 11:00am to 4:00pm at the Pusat Informasi, Youth Park, Penang.
  • Please note that the attractive commemorative T-shirt will be given to the 1st 2015 participants base on first-come, first-served basis.
  • However it is not a guarantee that participants shall be provided the “correct” sizes if any discrepancy occurs that is out of the organisers’ control. There shall be no size exchange allowed during the collection day.
  • There will be NO collection held on the event day itself.
  • Wearing of official running T-shirts during the event is compulsory in order to collect the special goodies bag after the event.

2. Registration

  • Registration starts at 6:30am-7:30am to collect your wristband base on the registration slip given during T-shirts collection.

  • Please refer to the route online.
  • Please follow the directions given by officials along the route at all times.

5. Finishing Point

  • Upon completion, participants are required to show wristband in exchange for goodies bag.
  • Finishers who complete the run shall be provided lucky draws coupon.
  • Please do not crowd the finishing area and make your way to the drink / rest areas as soon as possible.

6. Medical Assistance

  • Where possible, organisers shall attempt to have medical teams along the route. However, participants are requested to take care of their own safety before, during and after the event.
  • In the event that participant requires medical assistance, please seek the help of the nearest official.

7. Others

  • This is only a guide, and organisers are not responsible for any injuries, losses, damages, death and other undesirable occurrences before, during and after the event.
  • The organisers reserve the right to make changes to the Event Rules, route and/or other arrangements as they deem appropriate, to cancel and to postpone or reschedule the event date to a later date.
  • All participants, crew and staff must display courtesy, good taste, decorum, and sportsmanship at all times. Nudity is specifically not allowed.
  • All decisions by organisers are final, and no disputes shall be entertained.
